Amazing Schools of the World

By Svetlana FrolovaIllustrated by Sasha Shlyakhtina

How and what do they teach in schools around the world? Is it true that in China students may sleep during lessons, and in India there are robot teachers? School uniforms are also different everywhere: in Argentina all students wear white coats, almost like doctors, and in Denmark graduates wear special student caps. A journey through many schools, both unusual and very ordinary!

About the book

Amazing Schools of the World invites children to look at school as a shared experience that takes many different forms.

The journey begins with questions about everyday school life and moves across more than thirty countries, from lessons on boats in Bangladesh to bamboo classrooms in Indonesia, roof classrooms in Algeria, tree schools, nomadic schools and classrooms where children learn close to animals or nature.

Instead of comparing systems from above, the book follows details that children can recognise, such as uniforms, lunch breaks, notebooks, bells, homework, classroom rules and the role of teachers. Short dialogues, factual boxes and visual scenes help readers move between geography, history and social life without losing the sense of a story. Craft and cooking activities turn some chapters into small practical experiments.

At the end, children are asked to imagine their own ideal school, so the book becomes not only a trip around the world but also a way to think about learning itself.
